Locals and the tenants association formed the St Matthews Childrens Action Group in 1989 as a short-term and immediate response to the absence of play areas and after-school programmes for kids and families in St Matthews.
The Playwork Principles, which state that play is natural, biological, psychological, and socially necessary, are the foundation of our work. We also work alongside the Every Child Matters Agenda; being healthy, staying safe, enjoying & achieving, making a positive contribution and economic well-being.
There are 1654 kids between the ages of 0 and 15 in the St. Matthews neighbourhood; we now provide services to 213 registered kids who come by frequently, and 35 kids on average use the playground each session.
We have 4 Play Leaders, 1 Senior Play Leader, and 2 sessional Playworkers, all of whom have extensive, devoted expertise in the play and development of children.
On St. Matthews, we offer free play options for children aged 5 (as of September 1) through 12 and invite kids and families from all backgrounds to participate in play programmes after school and over the summer. All year long, kids participate in social activities, workshops, and outings and get to decide what they want to do.
With the exception of bank holidays and the Christmas break, we are open from 3 pm to 6 pm, Monday through Friday, during the academic year.
Since we are an open access project, children who have registered with us are welcome to come and leave as they like. In the crucial information, you may read about our open access policy.
We pick up kids from Taylor Road School in our neighbourhood whose parents are either in school or working full time. The play sessions and playschemes are free, and refreshments are also provided.
Children take part in a variety of activities, including photography, painting, athletics, and field trips, as well as courses on heritage and self-esteem.
