The EYFS is founded on inclusionary principles, which means that early childhood educators resist prejudice and discrimination and embrace all families and kids. They offer care and instruction to a variety of children in settings that foster safety and support while advancing learning and development.
It is emphasised throughout the EYFS that each child and their family are unique, with various needs and concerns. Six overlapping periods of child growth are shown. This overlap is meant to highlight the reality that children of comparable ages can develop very differently from one another.
