I grew up near Seaham Harbour where I spent a lot of my time as a kid exploring the lovely beaches.
I have a BA (hons) in Early Primary Education from Northumbria University and have been successfully teaching and leading in early years and key stage one ever since. I have a keen interest in researching the advantages of children's learning and developing through play, and I have been a self-described Playologist for ten years.
As a seasoned educator, senior leader in the educational system, certified L3 Beach Schools Leader, and managing director of Playology Limited, I am now eagerly awaiting the publication of my book on Hands On, Feet in Learning.
Play is joy, the physical manifestation of everything that makes a kid joyful, and ology denotes the pursuit of knowledge via scientific inquiry.
I really believe that play is a scientific approach in and of itself; seeing children play reveals how they are testing out hypotheses, formulating plans, evaluating results, and connecting dots.
Beginning as a complete passion project for my own children, my goal was to create a motivating environment where I would want to bring my boys, complete with exceptional, high-quality baby classes and active outdoor activities that were active like the many sports clubs but focused on play and discovery.
I also wanted to provide a space where children can be creative and enjoy the process of their creativity, instead of outcome-focused crafts.
Playology was established in 2019 to provide children, their educators, and their families with opportunities to participate in meaningful and developmentally appropriate creative play experiences that promote learning, ignite the imagination, foster creativity, grow hearts, and promote wellbeing while also allowing children to breathe in plenty of fresh air and take in the wonder and beauty of nature.
This gave me a tonne of motivation to make play the main emphasis of my subject of study.
