Lesley Pritchard is the proprietor of the family-run nursery known as Moon River (Spence).
I moved to Bristol when I was 18 years old to begin my State Registered Nurse (SRN) training at the Bristol Royal Infirmary. I was quite scared and homesick, and I frequently wondered what I had gotten myself into.
As I transitioned from a bashful student to a capable trained nurse, I met so many lovely patients who inspired me.
It was hard for me to leave the BRI because I had so many wonderful experiences there.
Looking ahead to having my own family, it quickly became clear that the demanding hours of a midwife's job would not be compatible with raising a small family. As a result, I applied for and was accepted into the Health Visiting training programme.
I started a nursing degree over 10 years after I received my nursing licence because I wanted to become a teacher.
When the right location for a children's day nursery became available in the neighbourhood where I was working, I took the chance to create a nursery because the families I visited frequently complained that there wasn't enough daycare in the area.
Moon River Nursery finally opened its doors in 2017 after three years of overcoming several challenges, and it has since grown steadily.
