We, my husband and I, started Mary Poppins in 1990 for just this purpose.
In our region, we were the first privately owned nursery to open.
The majority of our staff members have been with us for more than 20 years. Steph, one of our employees, was a baby who attended Mary Poppins and now has a child of her own who attends the nursery.
Since February 1995, I have worked at Mary Poppins Nursery under the name Denise Harris.
As the years have gone by, I've come to appreciate the impact that high-quality child care can have.
This applies not only to each child who frequently enrols as a baby and develops into a self-assured, active learner, school-ready child with life skills acquired at a pace that is unique to them, not only to each parent who is able to leave their child with the assurance that they are being cared for and supported as they would wish, allowing them to return to work with peace of mind, but also to the staff team who genuinely enjoys spending time with the children in their care.
Our goal is to keep working toward providing the best daycare we can.
We often ask our parents to fill out anonymous surveys to evaluate our performance. We also ask if their child is content and settled and we solicit suggestions on how we may provide better service.
Ofsted inspects us to make sure we are providing the best care and adhering to the National Day Care Standards.
Our local Derby City Early Years Childcare Team advisors and I communicate frequently.
Mary Poppins has received the highly regarded Steps to Quality Accreditation, which is a nationally recognised accolade. This award was established in collaboration with the Derby City Early Years Childcare Team and is intended to foster best practises and raise the standard of services and covering.
