How did you become involved in volunteering, why did you do it, and how long have you been doing it? What volunteer initiatives (groups, programmes, events, or fundraising campaigns) are you currently engaged in? "As a Communication Support Worker for the drop-in service at Manchester Deaf Centre, I primarily serve as a volunteer. Deaf people can visit us to have us make phone calls for them or translate letters from English to BSL (or vice-versa). I really enjoy this role because it's so varied! I collaborate closely with a BSL interpreter and the Sensory Team of Manchester City Council. Since you never know what the next individual may bring you to assist with, you must be flexible. My second position is providing administrative support to the project manager for the Manchester Deaf Center, which has helped me have a better understanding of the other services offered at the Center. All of my volunteer experiences have prepared me well for my future job and complemented my current abilities and knowledge ".
