In September 2019, Little Grubs Kindergarten, an outdoor pre-school for kids ages 2.5 to 6, opened in Bromfield, near Ludlow, in the Welsh Marches. We cultivate a love of learning in children as well as a lifelong curiosity about and connection to the environment and the world in which they live through innovative and engaging ways to play and learning and as a Recognised Forest School Provider. Every child's feeling of awe and wonder is embraced and nurtured by playing in and learning from nature, which provides first-hand experiences of the shifting seasons, unpredictable weather, and the species we share our natural places with. Children who grow up on a variety of functioning farms have many opportunities to see and learn about rural life, which helps them to acquire an early understanding of and interest in crops, farm animals, farm equipment, and the sources of their food. The farm animals, Farm Shop, and Walled Garden are all places to visit to broaden and animate experiences. Many of the ingredients used to make our meals are grown right on the farm and cooked by Ludlow Kitchen utilising local resources. A new kindergarten with a natural theme has been constructed under the initiative, which was partially supported by the European Agricultural Fund for Rural Development. Creating connections between young children, the countryside, the environment, and food is one of its goals. The loving learning environment, which operates out of a designated woodland and the renovated Old School Canteen on the Plymouth Settled Estates in Bromfield, has spaces for up to twenty pre-schoolers per day.
