From the Humpty Dumpty Pre-School (Colchester)
A group of parents and health visitors founded the pre-school in April 1997. It was housed in a prefabricated structure and opened three mornings a week with three staff members. Our programmes quickly expanded to ten each week, offering both morning and afternoon sessions, as the neighbourhood grew.
In 2008, the Bluebell Resource Centre opened, and we relocated to a specially constructed room within it. We are now open ten sessions a week, Monday through Friday, with eight staff members on duty.
As the neighbourhood continued to grow and our own pre-school was fully enrolled, we made the decision to open a second location on the grounds of a nearby primary school. Ten lessons per week are offered at our second location, which debuted in November 2010.
After the thirty-hour grant was implemented, we searched for ways to use it. We rearranged our sessions to make room for a lunch club, allowing us to provide full-day care for our parents. We provide both the 15-hour and 30-hour subsidised programmes in both of our settings.
