When I first began working at the farm, I was in secondary school. I had a lot of anxiety and suffered in school, so the school offered to let me travel to the farm every Wednesday in exchange for my attendance.
I was only supposed to stay at the farm for six weeks, but I ended up staying for about five years and haven't left yet! I really fell in love with farming there!
I decided to attend Kingston Maurward College to study Level 2 Agriculture with assistance from the farm; I was quite scared going into this, but knowing I could still visit the farm made it so much easier!
It was only natural that I would choose Rylands Farm for my work experience day because it was both my favourite spot and the requirement for my study.
The farm is excellent at helping me with any assignments I was having trouble with, whether it was for my GCSE coursework or later on for my college degree. They were always happy to assist me and would give me confidence when I didn't really feel it.
I have changed a lot since I started attending Rylands Farm; when I initially started, I didn't have much desire and didn't think I would accomplish to anything because school was so challenging at the time.
They have helped me develop a confidence and passion for animals, and they have encouraged me in doing things I never realised I was capable of, but through the years I have fully turned over a new leaf.
The folks who work on the farm are the best individuals you could ever hope to meet, and I will always be grateful for what they have given me.
I continue to attend college at Kingston Maurward once a week while simultaneously working as an apprentice dairy farmer and calf raiser on a neighbouring farm.
I love my job there, the freedom it affords me, and the chance it gives me to get experience in a field I would love to pursue further.
I don't think I would have discovered what I genuinely want to do and felt so calm in a profession I love doing without all of the prior assistance, especially from Julie and college.
