Ashton in Makerfield is home to First Steps at Cansfield. The nursery was built specifically with a newborn to 3 unit and a pre-school section with their own play areas. There is a sizable pre-school area that can hold up to 32 children and can house 24 children between the ages of 3-5. Additionally, there is a birth to three unit that can house up to 19 kids from 6 weeks to 3 years old.
We aim to offer sessions on a flexible basis so you can choose sessions to fit your specific needs, but this is not always possible due to the ratios we need to abide by. We offer free funded spaces for 2, 3, and 4-year-olds.
We have a separate dining room where breakfast, lunch, and afternoon tea are all provided, so the kids love eating together there every day. We have our own kitchen and cook, so we can easily accommodate any special dietary requirements of children. We also make sure that food is made so that children do not feel any different from the other children.
For children receiving 2, 3, and 4-year government funding, the nursery offers full-time and part-time sessions, as well as flexible delivery. Places are assigned in accordance with the unique needs of the families and children, and can be term-time only or stretched if the parent requires more weeks.
For kids aged 3 to 11 years old, we provide breakfast club, after-school club, and holiday care. Each year, both services are offered for 51 weeks. R L Hughes Primary School serves as the club's home base.
