Following licencing for the national market, an app created by medical professionals at Imperial College Healthcare to assist parents of premature infants getting treatment in the neonatal unit is now accessible to parents all over the nation.
The app, which is free and available for Android and iPhone, gives parents quick access to details about the Trust and important contact information as well as information that can help them comprehend their baby's journey, medical terms they might hear used, and their alternatives.
The software also has a place for parents to capture memories with their child and note important aspects like eating patterns and skin-to-skin contact information.
The new licence agreement enables other trusts in the nation to sign up to use the app, customise it to their unique needs, and add pertinent trust information and contact information to assist parents.
We wanted to give parents a resource they could rely on for basic information when we created this app, giving them the time and space to feel knowledgeable about their baby's journey and empowered while caring for their infant on the unit.
It is wonderful to see new technology developed at our Trust being made available to parents and other healthcare organisations, said Nick Fox, executive commercial director of Imperial College Healthcare NHS Trust.
Anyone who has witnessed a newborn infant in intensive care will be able to relate to the stress and worry such an encounter can cause.
A simple-to-use software that serves as a guide for parents during their child's stay in neonatal intensive care and allows them to record their experiences will go a long way toward reducing their anxiety by letting them know what to expect and how they may participate in the process.
The app is still freely accessible to all parents who may find the broad information beneficial, but customised versions for particular trusts will only be available to those under the care of a trust who have registered to use the app.
Simply search for "IFDC" to download it from the App Store or Google Play.
