Children from Bright Horizons observed Diwali, the festival of lights. Numerous families worldwide, including Sikhs, Jains, and Hindus, celebrate. Diwali is a festival of fresh starts and the victory of good over evil and light over darkness. For some, it also coincides with harvest and new year celebrations.
This week, the kids at Bright Horizons New Eltham Day Nursery and Preschool participated in a variety of Diwali-related activities.
The kids have been painting clay tealight holders, creating rangoli art, and dressing up in colourful clothes.
According to Nursery Manager Michelle Gregory, it was wonderful to see the kids celebrating Diwali and learning more about the customs connected with the Festival of Light.
Children have been learning more about Diwali at Bright Horizons Lewisham Day Nursery and Preschool.
The kids were exposed to the Diwali holiday by participating in a range of activities where they listened to ethnic music, looked at traditional attire, and then got dressed up.
According to Nursery Manager Sally Osborn, they also made their own Diyas, sampled traditional dishes, learnt the names of gods and goddesses, and engaged in discussion about the Rangoli pattern.
As the season of lights gets underway, kids at Bright Horizons Toyota Bumpers Day Nursery and Preschool in Burnaston, Derbyshire, have started celebrating Diwali.
With the flowers and photographs of fireworks, the kids have loved creating Rangoli patterns to take home.
Over the next five days, Diwali will take place, and it has already started at Bumpers. According to Nursery Manager Lisa Snell, this is the largest celebration in the Hindu calendar year.
