From the Becket Hall Day Nursery
To the Reggio Emilia method of teaching, which places the child at the centre of learning and encourages independence and self-directed experiential learning in relational contexts.
As a result, we have integrated Bristols Emotional Well-Being into our setting and reach out to engage our communities through our children's families as well as our partnership with the nearby care home and forest school experiences. We have identified a need for having a strong approach to supporting children's emotional well-being in a society that is expanding at a rapid rate.
We acknowledge that technology and screen time are becoming a bigger and bigger part of our culture, however at Becket Hall we have decided to give kids less screen time and instead put more of an emphasis on outside physical learning and literacy.
We pride ourselves on having a low-tech, high-touch approach to education, which means that while we do provide certain opportunities for kids to learn ITC, we prioritise early writing skills and hands-on physical learning while utilising our lovely outdoor environment.
In addition to encouraging parents to share their at-home learning via our free parentzone learning journal App and providing ideas for at-home learning, we use the Early Years Foundation Stage to supplement our curriculum.
We have high expectations for every one of our students, and in addition to promoting the Characteristics of Effective Learning, these are the collective goals that our team will work toward when assisting your child's growth and learning at Becket Hall.
We as a setting are dedicated to lowering waste, and we accomplish this by recycling our waste whenever possible.
We have eliminated all unnecessary single-use plastic, and we're committed to replacing our plastic toys with products made of more environmentally friendly materials when their useful lives are through.
Toys can be open-ended and built of natural materials, and if possible, we'll strive to upcycle natural or recycled products.
In order to recycle clothing and textiles, we invite families to use and donate to our Community Sharing Rail, which we hope will both help families save money and cut down on avoidable landfill.
